New toy

So, a couple of days ago I got me a new toy (actually a present :P), the Asus EEEpc 701 (4GB SSD version). What can I tell? It's a great piece of work. It's small and extremely affordable and extremely portable. You can find more info about all models here EEE. I got it with WinXp SP1 pre-installed, worked great. I decided to install the SP3 version. It was a little bit hard, because I installed it from a 1GB SD card (I'll come back soon with tutorial on how to do that)because it doesn't have an optical drive. With a minimum software package (OpenOffice 3, CoolPDF, Firefox, Yahoo Messenger, Thunderbird) it worked great. Next OS choice was BackTrack 3 (Link linux distro for testing security). Well I installed it on a bootable USB and I ran it from there. Still worked great accept the fact that I couldn't connect to any wireless networks. I don't know why because on the net I didn't find this issue appearing to anyone else. The third SO on my EEE is the Ubuntu based EasyPeasy (Link), a distro created especially for netbooks. No more problems here. Everything works great here, even the wireless card. The software selection is great, even though I uninstalled some of the programs because I don't need them on my portable (Skype, Transmission BitTorrent, I exchanged EvolutionMail for Thunderbird).
Another good thing I did is update the BIOS. With the original BIOS the 900Mhz worked only at 600Mhz. With the latest BIOS the Intel ATOM processor works at full capacity.
The next thing I'll do, next week, is replace the 512Mb SODIMM with 1GB, or maybe 2 (depending on the finances). That's all for now about my new jewel. I'll come back soon with some new tutorials.
