1st of December

"...The Great Union of 1918 was and remains the most sublime event in Romanian history. Its greatness resides in the fact that the fulfilment of the national unity is not the work of any politician, government or party; it is the historic deed of the whole Romanian nation, accomplished out of a powerful longing coming from the vivid awareness of the unity of the people and channelled by the political leaders for it to be led towards its aim with a remarkable political intelligence. [...]

The Great Union was not the result of Romania participating in the war. Neither the supporters of the Entente, nor those of the Central Powers did take into account the Russian revolution or the disintegration of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Their reasoning followed the traditional formula of the power relations between states: the victory of the Entente would bring to us Bucovina, Transylvania and the Banat, while the victory of the Central Powers would bring Bessarabia; one victory excluded the other so that no one could see how all these provinces could join the borders of the Old Kingdom simultaneously. [...]

It was not a military victory that laid the foundation of Great Romania, but the will of the Romanian nation to create for itself the territorial and institutional framework that is the national state. [...]

A historic necessity - the nation has to live within a national state - proved to be more powerful than any government or party, guilty of selfishness or incompetence and, putting the nation into motion, gave it that huge drive to overcome all the adversities and make its dream come true: the national state. [...]"

Never again... the same

I'm thinking this.... Or better said I'm knowing this: this is changeing me! Fact! Stop. The avalanche of people that I've met since I'm here is overwhelming! But that's the point. It's great! I love meeting new and interesting people, I love getting to know true and intelligent persons, like the circle I've created here. We are students from all over the world, meeting in this city just to evolve. We are here to experience, to get to know our own selfes, to experiment, to have fun, to explore,to get used to the big city, and others, but not least to study :). Yep, college means studying, and I promise that after the freshman's bal I'll start too.

Over and out!

Truda - The 5 o'clock news

Truda is a Romanian band, pretty hardcore, very underground, extremely cluj-eni :D.
The 5 o'clock are the above-ground hardcore-est news in Romania. Only rapes, car crashes and
murders.
Truda decides to take them together. Awesome clip in my opinion. Enjoy :)

A new day shines on....

Yep, I've been for a week now in Cluj. Basically it's great. I'm staying in a dorm, and by huge luck I have great roommates, it my group @ school I've met some great guys and girls, so we hang out a lot, and by adding the friends I already had here in cluj, and the ones I came with, things look really pink :).
School is pretty shitty until now cause I have two mathematics and about six computer science classes, and I hate math since I was in junior high, so during the math classes I can barely fight to stay awake.

Soon I'll be back with more reviews and stuff so don't forget to keep coming cause I'll keep posting.

The first day of the rest of my life...

Yep, tomorrow I'll leave Vatra Dornei, my home for 19 years. It's a great place to live, even though it get's sometimes a little boring and a little stuffy, and I'll miss it, but I'll still come back here every few weeks. I can't stop thinking that except a few vacations in the next few years I'll never live here again. But the good part is that from tomorrow I'll start my college life in Cluj-Napoca, and I've got very high hopes for that. A good friend told me that I'll feel reborn in the first days... I hope he is right.

So for the last time as a "dornean",

Over and out....

In the 4th installment in the Terminator series we have Sean Connor (Christian Bale) living his mother's prophecies. Here's the official trailer, and movie poster. The complete title is Terminator Salvation, and it's due to release on the 22nd of May 2009.

Ubuntu - Installing wireless Broadcom drivers

The basic ideea is that a lot of us have problems with our Broadcom drivers, which appear in a lot of laptop models. I have an Acer TravelMate 5320 (with Ubuntu 8.04.1 aka Hardy Heron), and by testing a lot of tutorials, which ate about a week of my life, I managed to find a somewhat easier way to install the drives. Ok, now, let's take it step by step:

Step 1:
Go to your System->Administration->Synaptic package manager
Insert your sistem password, then go to the Settings->Repositories

Step2:
Check all the blanks there, so you can get full software support
Then go to the Updates tab and also check all the boxes
Now just click Close
Your computer will update now.
Just restart.

Step 3:
Now we have to install a little software called Ndiswrapper
First open System->Administration->Hardware drivers
There should appear your wireless board. Be sure it's unchecked
Go Applications->Add/Remove and search Ndiswrapper and install it
Go System->Administration->Ndiswrapper
Install new hardware and just select the location of your Windows Driver (cd or location on your PC)

And that's it. Just reboot your computer one more time and search for the wireless network you want to use. Go luck, and don't hesitate to message me if you have trouble.

Everyones favorite un-wild animals are back

In the highly-anticipated sequel to “Madagascar,” Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, King Julien, Maurice and the penguins and the chimps find themselves marooned on the distant shores of Madagascar. In the face of this obstacle, the New Yorkers have hatched a plan so crazy it just might work. With military precision, the penguins have repaired an old crashed plane—sort of. Once aloft, this unlikely crew stays airborne just long enough to make it to the wildest place of all—the vast plains of Africa, where the members of our zoo-raised crew encounter species of their own kind for the very first time. Africa seems like a great place…but is it better than their Central Park home? Coming November 8th :P

Dragon Ball Z

Yes, the famous anime character Goku, with whom we grew up, is ready to join the blockbuster movie list in 2009 with DragonBall. The movie is due to release on the 10th of April and it's presenting a full cast of growing movie stars like Justin Chatwin as teenager Goku or James Marsters, the Buffy star, as Piccolo. The movie synopsis follows the cartoon's Piccolo Saga, with Goku trying to collect all the Dragon Balls so Piccolo can't get them and rule the world.

Yam-yam news:
Here's a little teaser-poster where you can see Lord Piccolo in all his greenish seduction :P

Computer-Mouse Star

On the list of totally useless crap that you can buy for your computer you have the new Computer-Mouse Star. Yes, the guy who named it should get a raise for being so clever.... The name describes the product so perfectly, it being a computer mouse shaped like a star. Which is no doubt extremely ergonomic and overly comfortable all around to use. This mouse can be bought at about 30euros from www.design-3000.de, and being his high practicality I can bet it's a sure win.

Ubuntu - resizing icons/ Ubuntu - micsorare icons

Ok, the simplest way to resize an icon on Ubuntu with Gnome desktop, is right clicking it and using Strech Icon and then simply moving your mouse like you do on a normal desktop window. This is the quickest way (the second way isn't hard at all :P), but it only applies to one icon, the one you resize it.
The second way: open terminal and write nautilus, the go Edit->Preferences and there you can see Icon View Defaults, simply choose a smaller size. The best way visually in my opinion is 75%, but it's up to you now. Now all your icons are smaller :)
Good luck
